Patient Information

What to expect at Urim Denture Clinic.

A thorough first consultation

We begin by discussing your concerns, health history, current dentures and what you would like to improve.

Clear treatment information

Isaac explains the relevant options, expected stages and fees before you decide how to proceed.

Fitting and follow-up care

Your dentures are checked at fitting, with review and adjustment arranged according to your treatment needs.

Your first denture consultation.

Your consultation is an opportunity to explain what has brought you to Urim Denture Clinic and what you would like your dentures to help you achieve. Dental Prosthetist Isaac Hoshi will ask about your health, dental history, previous denture experience and any current problems with eating, speaking, comfort, fit or appearance.

Isaac will examine your mouth and any existing dentures you bring. He will then explain the findings, which denture options may be relevant and whether care from a dentist or another clinician is required before treatment begins.

A consultation does not commit you to treatment. It gives you the information needed to understand the recommendation, likely process and next step.

What to bring to your appointment.

  • Your current dentures, even if you no longer wear them regularly.
  • Any broken denture pieces or loose components.
  • A list of medicines and relevant health information.
  • Details of your dentist, specialist or referring clinician, if another practitioner is involved.
  • Relevant referral letters, radiographs, implant records or treatment plans.
  • If you’re having new dentures made, we recommend bringing along photos of yourself when you still had your natural teeth. These can help guide tooth selection and achieve a more natural, personalised appearance. The photos don’t need to be high quality.
  • Your private health fund card if Urim confirms on-the-spot claiming is available.
  • A support person or carer if you would like someone to attend with you.

The detail behind your dentures.

Preparing for a denture fitting.

Bring any information Isaac has asked you to provide and let the clinic know if your health, medicines or dental treatment have changed since the previous appointment.

At your fitting appointment, we will carefully check the fit and comfort of your denture, as well as how your teeth come together when you bite. He will also explain what to expect as you adjust to wearing it, how often to wear it initially and when to return for a review.

Getting used to new dentures.

Eating with new dentures

Follow the individual advice provided at fitting. Starting with manageable foods, eating slowly and taking smaller mouthfuls may help while you learn how the dentures function.

Speaking with new dentures

Your speech may sound or feel different at first. Reading aloud or practising words that feel unfamiliar can help you adapt. Please contact us if you continue to experience difficulty speaking or if your denture feels loose or unstable.

Sore areas and adjustments

A new denture may create pressure areas that need professional adjustment. Do not file or reshape the denture yourself. Contact us if you have persistent soreness or difficulty wearing it.

When to contact your denture clinic.

  • Your denture cracks, breaks or loses a tooth or clasp.
  • It becomes loose, rocks or no longer seats correctly.
  • You develop persistent pain, rubbing or pressure areas.
  • You notice an ulcer that does not heal, bleeding, swelling or another change in your mouth.
  • Your bite feels different or the denture affects eating or speaking.
  • An implant overdenture attachment no longer retains as expected.
  • You are unsure how to clean, insert or remove the denture.

Fees, quotes and health funds.

Denture fees vary depending on the treatment required, denture design, materials, number of appointments and technical work involved. Following your assessment, we will explain our recommendation and provide you with a clear quote before treatment begins.

We accept all private health funds, and HICAPS is available for convenient on-the-spot claims. The rebate you receive will depend on your insurer, level of cover, waiting periods and annual limits. We recommend contacting your health fund before treatment if you would like to confirm your expected rebate and any remaining limits.

At Urim Denture Clinic, Isaac is both your treating clinician and the dental technician responsible for crafting your dentures. Unlike clinics that outsource denture fabrication to external laboratories, this allows Isaac to oversee the entire process, dedicating additional time and care to creating highly characterised, individualised dentures tailored to your needs.

Our professional fees reflect the time, care and attention to detail involved in this process. By combining his clinical and technical expertise, Isaac is able to deliver personalised dentures designed to look natural, feel comfortable and function effectively.

Our fees explained.

Creating quality dentures involves considerably more than the finished product. Learn about the time, expertise and attention to detail that goes into each set of dentures, and how this is reflected in our fees.

Information for carers and family members.

You are welcome to help a family member or person you care for prepare for their appointment. Bring relevant health information, current dentures and the details of other treating practitioners.

As a patient, you should be involved in decisions wherever possible. Our denture clinic will confirm consent before discussing personal health or treatment information with another member.

Frequently asked patient questions.

Still have a question?

You can contact Urim directly for a denture consultation. If another practitioner is already involved, bring their referral or treatment information where available.

The number of appointments depends on the type of denture, your mouth and whether other dental care is required. Isaac will explain the anticipated stages after your assessment.

Dentures are generally removed while sleeping so the mouth can rest, unless your dental practitioner has given you different instructions for a particular clinical reason.

No. Filing, bending or gluing a denture can damage it and alter the fit. Contact Urim so the denture and your mouth can be assessed.

There is no single replacement timeframe for everyone. Wear, changes in the mouth, damage, maintenance and the denture design all affect how long it remains suitable. Regular reviews help identify when relining, repair or replacement should be considered.

Yes. You may bring a family member, carer or support person. Urim will still direct treatment discussions and consent decisions to the patient wherever possible.
