Denture repair and fit assessments.
What denture problems can Urim assess?
Dentures can be damaged by impact, wear or changes in the way they fit. A visible break is not the only reason to arrange an assessment.
Stop wearing the denture if it is sharp, unstable or causing injury, and seek professional advice. Pain, ulcers, bleeding, swelling or other changes in the mouth should also be assessed rather than attributed to the denture without examination.
Contact our clinic if you notice:
- A crack or complete break through the denture base.
- A chipped, loose or missing denture tooth.
- A bent, loose or broken clasp on a partial denture.
- A denture that rocks, lifts or moves more than it previously did.
- New pressure areas, rubbing or persistent soreness.
- A change in the way the upper and lower teeth meet.
- Difficulty inserting or removing a partial denture.
- An implant overdenture that no longer connects or retains as expected.
Repair, reline, adjustment or replacement?
The appropriate solution depends on both the denture and your mouth. Repairing the visible damage without checking why it occurred can leave the underlying problem unresolved.

Denture repair
A repair restores a damaged part of the denture, such as a cracked base, broken tooth or clasp. Whether a repair is suitable depends on the material, age, condition and design of the denture, as well as the cause of the damage.

Denture reline
A reline changes the fitting surface of a denture so it better follows the current shape of the tissues beneath it. It may be considered when the denture itself remains suitable but the fit has changed.

Denture adjustment
An adjustment makes a targeted change to address a pressure area, bite concern or another fit issue. It should be completed professionally so the denture is not weakened or altered in the wrong area.

Denture replacement
Replacement may be recommended when a denture is extensively worn, repeatedly breaking, poorly designed for the current mouth or unable to provide an appropriate result through repair or relining alone.
What to do with a broken denture.
How the denture repair assessment works.
Step 1
We examine the denture
Isaac assesses the location and extent of the damage, along with the denture’s age, overall condition and repair history.
Step 2
We assess your mouth and fit
Where clinically required, the denture is assessed in your mouth. This helps identify changes in fit, bite or supporting tissues that may have contributed to the problem.
Step 3
We explain the appropriate option
You will be told whether a repair, reline, adjustment or replacement appears suitable, what the work involves and the anticipated fee and timing.
Step 4
We check the result
After the work is completed, the denture is checked as appropriate for fit, bite and function. Further review may be recommended depending on the issue treated.
Why dentures become loose or break.
A denture may break because it is dropped or placed under an unusual force. Breakage can also occur when the fit or bite has changed and stress is repeatedly concentrated in one area.
The tissues and bone beneath a denture can change over time. Denture teeth and base materials also wear with use. These changes may affect stability, bite and how forces travel through the appliance.
Repeated repairs can be a sign that the denture or the mouth needs a more complete assessment. Isaac will explain when further repair is reasonable and when relining or replacement should be considered.
Care after a denture repair or reline.
- Follow the wearing and cleaning instructions provided at your appointment.
- Contact Urim if the denture causes persistent soreness or does not feel stable.
- Avoid modifying the repaired area yourself.
- Handle the denture over a folded towel or basin of water while cleaning.
- Remove the denture overnight unless your practitioner gives different instructions.
- Arrange regular reviews so changes in the denture and your mouth can be identified early.
Personally Guided Denture repairs
Denture repairs led by dental prosthetist Isaac Hoshi.
Dentures are Urim’s sole focus. Isaac Hoshi is the Owner, Director and Dental Prosthetist at Urim Denture Clinic, and he assesses both the technical damage and the way the denture is functioning in your mouth.
This allows the recommendation to address more than the visible break. You will understand what can be repaired, whether another issue needs attention and when replacement may provide a more appropriate long-term option.

Frequently asked questions about denture repairs.
Still have a question?
Many broken dentures can be repaired, but not every denture is suitable. The material, damage, age, fit and reason for the break need to be assessed before a recommendation is made.
It may be possible to replace or reattach a denture tooth or repair part of a clasp, depending on the denture design and condition. Bring all pieces to the assessment.
Turnaround depends on the type of damage, the material, the work required and when the denture can be assessed. Call Urim with the details of the problem and we will explain the available timing.
A reline renews the surface of the denture that rests against the gums. It may improve fit when the shape of the mouth has changed but the denture remains otherwise suitable.
A cracked denture can worsen or cause irritation. Contact Urim for advice and stop wearing it if it is sharp, unstable or causing injury.
Do not use household glue. It can be unsafe for use in the mouth, misalign the broken sections and make professional repair more difficult. Keep all pieces and bring them to your appointment.
The fee depends on the type of denture, extent of damage and work required. Urim will explain the recommended treatment and cost after assessing the denture.
Replacement may be considered when a denture is very worn, no longer fits the mouth, has repeated fractures or cannot be repaired predictably. Isaac will explain the reasons if replacement is recommended.
